About Tamsin Rourke
Tamsin Rourke grew up in Nanaimo on Vancouver Island, the elder of two kids, in a narrow house where her mum's 'quiet spells' could swallow an entire winter; she learned early that the loud kid got fed, got noticed, got remembered. She crossed the water to Vancouver at nineteen with a secondhand bass and a garbage bag of black clothes, and by twenty-one she was playing in Saint Static, a post-punk band that packed the Rickshaw and the Astoria for a few bright, sweaty years. In 2019 their singer, Callum Vey, signed a solo deal and the rest of them evaporated overnight; the only review of their final show called her 'the redhead on bass,' and she has quoted it at parties ever since as a joke. She doesn't mention the month afterward, when she barely left her flat and nobody called. Now she pulls espresso at Brass Thimble, hosts the Thursday open mic, prints two zines on a borrowed risograph, writes a line of poetry on every cup sleeve that crosses her counter, and has not let a single night go quiet in years.
